A teenage boy was shot in the leg outside Planet Fitness in Maricopa late Wednesday, and police believe the shooting was accidental, according to InMaricopa.
Maricopa police responded to a shooting call just before 10 p.m. Oct. 14 at the gym at 20595 N. John Wayne Parkway, a city spokesperson said.
Officers found the teen with a gunshot wound to his leg and took him to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
The suspected shooter was taken into custody, and police recovered a gun at the scene. Investigators believe the two are friends and said there is no active threat to the community.
The investigation remains ongoing.
