Letter urges Maricopa voters to back Dugan, Coutre and three ballot measures

In a letter published by InMaricopa, a Maricopa voter shared recommendations ahead of the Nov. 3 election, when early ballots are also being distributed. The letter highlights two city races and three propositions that will appear on the ballot.

For City Council, the letter supports Tena Dugan for one of two open seats. The writer said Dugan has shown strong research skills, speaks up for accountability and transparency, and would act in the best interests of Maricopa residents.

The letter also backs Patti Coutre for the MUSD school board. According to the letter, Coutre’s experience and commitment to education make her a good fit for a board that works with district leadership on fiscal responsibility and student success.

On the ballot measures, the writer urges a yes vote on Proposition 414, Maricopa’s General Plan, saying it helps guide future land use and growth. The letter also supports Proposition 416, describing it as a continuation of MUSD override funding that helps support smaller class sizes, technology and existing programs.

The letter takes the opposite position on Proposition 320, which would require certain school districts to spend 60% of their annual operating budget on direct instructional expenses. The writer argues it would reduce local control and could affect a wide range of school services and operations.
