Construction on a new traffic light at Desert Greens Drive and Smith-Enke Road is nearly finished, according to city officials who spoke with InMaricopa. The $1.3 million project is expected to wrap up by the end of the month.
Work on the project started in June and included periodic closures of Desert Greens Drive between Colby Drive and Smith-Enke Road. Crews also built a westbound right-turn lane at the intersection before installing the traffic signal last weekend.
City officials said the signal is intended to improve safety at the intersection, especially for drivers turning or crossing Smith-Enke Road during busier traffic times.
Officials said the project is part of a larger effort to strengthen transportation infrastructure as Maricopa continues to grow.
