Self Esteem, whose real name is Rebecca Lucy Taylor, has landed her first major film role in the 1980s-set Welsh coming-of-age drama Mountain, according to NME.
The BBC Wales-confirmed project will also feature Peter Mullan, Iwan Rheon and Seth Isaac Thomas. Welsh actor and filmmaker Celyn Jones is directing the film, and Bill Ryder-Jones has composed its original soundtrack.
Mountain follows a young boy growing up in North Wales during the 1980s as he searches for friendship and a sense of community. His life changes when he meets a man living alone on a mountain, and the pair form a lasting bond.
Filming began in Anglesey in June and has now wrapped. Jones described shooting in his hometown of Holyhead as an emotional and spiritual homecoming, according to the report.
Taylor has been moving more into acting in recent years, with roles in the Sky series I Hate Suzie and Smothered, plus West End turns in Cabaret and Teeth ‘n’ Smiles. She is also set to open for Florence + The Machine in Edinburgh on August 24 and support Pulp in Manchester on August 28.
