Charli XCX joins The Strokes for ‘Take It Or Leave It’ at Outside Lands

Charli XCX joined The Strokes onstage during their Outside Lands set in San Francisco on August 8, where the two performed “Take It Or Leave It,” according to NME.

The Strokes were headlining the festival at Golden Gate Park one night after Charli had topped the bill on the same stage. Midway through the show, frontman Julian Casablancas introduced her as a “superstar” and joked about their competing album releases.

Casablancas told the crowd, “You’re the queen of album sales,” and added that Charli had won by a wide margin, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Charli and Casablancas then traded vocals on the closing track from The Strokes’ 2001 debut album, “Is This It.”

The collaboration followed earlier work between the two artists, including Casablancas’ appearance on a rework of Charli’s “Mean Girls” for her 2024 remix album. Casablancas has also spoken publicly about his admiration for how Charli has handled her fame, while Charli has described The Strokes as a dance band.
