Blossoms celebrated the 10th anniversary of their self-titled debut album on Wednesday, August 5, by playing it from start to finish at Manchester’s Deaf Institute, according to NME. The 260-capacity show was the band’s first at the venue since 2014 and was also recorded for a live album called Live At The Deaf Institute.
Frontman Tom Ogden told NME the night felt especially meaningful because of the close connection between the band and their early fans. He said intimate shows can feel more grounded, and recalled details from the band’s earlier days, including giving carnations to everyone at their 2014 Deaf Institute gig.
The set mixed debut album tracks with deep cuts, fan favourites and songs from Blossoms’ upcoming sixth album, Songs From The Wedding Cake. Ogden said the band also previewed an unreleased song called “Additional Driver,” which he described on stage as being inspired by a minor car collision near the Apollo roundabout.
Declan McKenna joined Blossoms on stage for their latest single “Meet Me In Love,” and Ogden said the two artists wrote their collaborative track in Anglesey after a week of writing together. He told NME the song was recorded partly in a hot tub and reflected the playful approach the band have taken on their recent work.
