An unusual raccoon in Seattle, nicknamed Jimothy, is drawing widespread attention after video of the animal spread online, according to UPI Odd News.
Kiana Hall recorded Jimothy in the Ballard neighborhood after seeing the raccoon emerge from beneath a car. She later posted the clip to Instagram, where the animal's round shape and short neck quickly helped it go viral.
Marcie Logsdon, an associate professor at Washington State University's Veterinary Teaching Hospital, said Jimothy was likely born this year. While she could not diagnose the raccoon without examining it, she said the animal's appearance may be the result of a congenital deformity of the spine.
Logsdon also said Jimothy appears to be moving around okay, which can be a sign of good health. Seattle residents have since embraced the raccoon as a kind of local cryptid, while Hall said she is glad the video has brought joy to so many people.
