Birmingham will host its first-ever Ozzy Day next Wednesday, July 22, to mark one year since Ozzy Osbourne’s death, according to NME. The citywide event will honor the Black Sabbath frontman in the place where his story began.
Central BID Birmingham said the day will include a free program of music, memories and tributes across the city centre. Planned activities include a public art series, live performances and stops at locations connected to Osbourne’s life and Birmingham roots.
Among the featured moments, Ozzy the Bull will be dressed for the occasion, and Bostin Brass will return with pop-up performances after playing during Osbourne’s funeral procession last year. A lunchtime performance from musicians in the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra is also scheduled at Bullring.
Fans will be able to leave messages for Osbourne at Birmingham New Street, where the Birmingham Music Archive will collect stories and reflections in a commemorative guestbook. The event is being delivered by Central BID and OPUS in partnership with Birmingham City Council, Birmingham New Street and Westside BID.
To mark the occasion, a limited-edition T-shirt and a new Patient Number 9 Golden Ale have also been created. Osbourne died last summer at age 76, just 17 days after his final live show at Villa Park.
