Role Model says new album led him to therapy and features Dakota Johnson

Role Model is sharing more about the personal side of his next album as he prepares to release Chuck Timely & the Hourglass on Friday, Aug. 7. In a new interview with NYLON, the singer-songwriter said the project led him to begin therapy for the first time and helped him look at himself more closely.

According to Billboard, Tucker Pillsbury, who performs as Role Model, said writing the record sparked a period of self-examination. He explained that making the album and writing the songs played a role in his decision to seek therapy.

He also talked about the success of his viral song “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out,” which entered Billboard’s Alternative Adult Airplay chart in 2025. Even with that breakout hit, he said he never felt much pressure to surpass it, and joked that some of the lyrics are among his worst.

Role Model said the album’s character, Chuck Timely, is less of a separate persona and more of a way to explore the record’s themes of love, heartbreak and self-discovery. He also revealed that his girlfriend, Dakota Johnson, appears on the song “Love I You” after recording a spoken-word bridge during a studio visit.

Chuck Timely & the Hourglass includes the previously released singles “Joy” and “High Hopes 3000,” with the latter debuting at No. 94 on the Billboard Hot 100.
