Gracie Abrams says her relationship with actor Paul Mescal has not held back her music career — it has helped her songwriting, according to Billboard.
In a new Rolling Stone cover story published Tuesday, Abrams clarified comments she had made in a previous Vogue interview, where she said she had worried a steady relationship could threaten her drive to write music. She said the reaction online was far more dramatic than what she intended.
Abrams said Mescal has given her space to reflect on her life and added that the relationship has had “the most amazing effect” on her writing. She said it has helped her gain perspective on past relationships, family and friendships.
The singer also said the pair, who were first linked in the summer of 2024, have worked together creatively. Abrams said Mescal helped write “Imaginary Friend” from her album Daughter From Hell, and she described their home in London as a musical environment where inspiration often comes naturally.
