Ovrkast responds to Outkast lawsuit over stage name dispute

California rapper and producer Ovrkast is responding to a lawsuit filed by Outkast over his stage name, according to Rolling Stone. The complaint accuses him of using a nearly identical name after previously agreeing to change it.

In a statement to Rolling Stone, Ovrkast said he developed his professional name on his own and never intended to copy Outkast or mislead fans. He also said he has deep respect for the duo and hopes a resolution can be reached.

Outkast’s 31-page lawsuit in Georgia accuses Ovrkast, whose legal name is Silas Wilson, of trademark infringement, unfair competition and breach of contract. The filing says he used the name to benefit from the fame tied to Outkast and claims the name has already caused confusion.

The complaint also says Wilson backed away from a negotiated agreement that would have required him to change his stage name to Overkxst and stop using Ovrkast across his online accounts and promotional materials. Wilson wrote on X earlier this week that he never signed any agreement and tried to cooperate with different options.
