The deaths of two men in a Glennwilde house fire last month have been ruled accidental, according to records from the Pinal County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Shannon Cogburn, 50, and Jason Liddle, 51, died from smoke and soot inhalation and the toxic effects of methamphetamine, according to public records obtained by InMaricopa. The fire broke out around 11:36 a.m. on Aug. 1 in a home near Portarosa Drive and Corvalis Lane.
Officials said Liddle’s cause of death also included burns to his upper body, fractured ribs and the presence of fentanyl, meth and alcohol. He was found on a bathroom floor beneath fire debris. Cogburn was found unresponsive in the home and was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The report said the fire is believed to have started in the attic near the HVAC system, and there were no signs that accelerant was used. Maricopa police and fire officials said the investigation is still ongoing and more information may be released in the coming weeks.
