A Maricopa man is facing felony charges after police say they spotted him driving erratically on John Wayne Parkway last week, according to InMaricopa.
Police were initially called to a reported fight between a man and a woman around 5 p.m. Sept. 16 outside the Circle K on John Wayne Parkway. By the time officers arrived, Gregory Picard, 59, and the woman had already left, according to a probable cause statement.
Officers later saw Picard’s white Toyota Tundra speeding southbound at Porter and Bowlin roads. Police said the truck was moving erratically, straddling lanes and trying to use a keypad at a gate that was already open.
When officers stopped to speak with Picard, they reported that he was stumbling, swaying and had bloodshot, watery eyes. He was also described as argumentative and combative, and officers said he was slurring his speech and yelling profanities while denying he had been drinking.
The woman told police that Picard had “drank quite a bit of alcohol” before driving her around. She also said he hit and yelled at her and threatened to throw her out of the vehicle while driving. Police said records checks showed Picard had three prior DUI charges within the last year. He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated DUI, disorderly conduct, assault, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.
