Noah Kahan is backing a new Massachusetts bill that would place limits on ticket resale prices, according to Rolling Stone.
Governor Maura Healey announced the proposal Thursday as “An Act Relative to Closing the Great Divide between Ticket Prices and Affordability,” also called “The Great Divide Act.” The bill is named in part after Kahan’s latest album and would cap resale ticket prices, restrict speculative ticket sales, and reduce some ticket fees.
Kahan joined Healey’s press conference by video and said he was excited about the effort. He said fans and artists would benefit from curbing ticket scalping and speculative ticket sales, adding that artists alone cannot address market manipulation by secondary resellers.
Under the proposal, tickets sold on the secondary market would be limited to 110 percent of face value, and resale sites could only take a 10 percent cut. Healey said the measure is also meant to stop speculative tickets, a problem she pointed to after World Cup games at Gillette Stadium left hundreds of people turned away because tickets had been sold by people who did not actually have them.
Kahan previously supported a similar bill in Vermont and recently played four sold-out shows at Boston’s Fenway Stadium.
