New Radicals have released their first new original song in nearly 28 years, according to Rolling Stone. The track, “One Night Only (Break Loose Break Free!),” is featured on the soundtrack for the upcoming rom-com One Night Only.
The film is described as a story about searching for love on the least romantic night of the year and is scheduled to open August 7. A portion of the soundtrack was released Friday and also includes King Princess’ cover of “Love Is in the Air” and a preview of Este Haim’s film score, according to Vulture.
The new song is the band’s first original release since Maybe You’ve Been Brainwashed Too came out in 1998. That album included the group’s best-known hit, “You Get What You Give,” and Gregg Alexander dissolved the band the following year.
Alexander later continued working as a songwriter and producer, and New Radicals eventually returned in 2021 for Joe Biden’s presidential inauguration parade. Since then, the group has also recorded new versions of songs Alexander helped write, but “One Night Only (Break Loose Break Free!)” is the first original New Radicals song in decades.
