Neil Young Shares 11-Minute Title Track From Upcoming Album 'Second Song'

Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts are set to release their new album Second Song on September 18, and the title track is already available as a lyric video, according to Rolling Stone.

The song is an acoustic ballad that runs more than 11 minutes and focuses on the passage of time and the need for human connection. In the lyrics, Young sings about wanting someone to talk to and share life with.

Second Song is the group’s second album together, following 2025’s Talkin’ to the Trees. The band includes guitarist Micah Nelson, keyboardist and organ player Spooner Oldham, drummer Anthony LoGergo, and bassist Cory McCormick.

Young told Neil Young Archives subscribers that five of the seven tracks were newly written songs he came up with in Colorado around the start of the year. He said he later recorded them in Malibu with producer Lou Adler at Rick Rubin’s ShangriLa Studios, and then added two older songs from his teenage years.

Young also said the older tracks fit well with the newer material. He previously cancelled a planned summer Europe run, saying he needed a break and was listening to his body. His next scheduled performance is Farm Aid in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on September 26, though he has also said more shows may be added around that time.
