Myspace may be headed back online in a new form more than 20 years after its original launch, according to E! News.
Owners Chris Vanderhook and Tim Vanderhook confirmed in Tommy Avallone’s documentary Myspace that they intend to relaunch the social platform. Tim said they still own the brand and are “waiting for the right time” to bring it back, adding that they would try again if the first relaunch doesn’t work.
The site has never fully disappeared, and several owners have tried over the years to revive it. Chris and Tim bought Myspace in 2011 and spent two years developing a redesign that focused heavily on music, but it did not regain its former popularity.
In the documentary, Chris said Myspace had already been through several management changes before they took over. He also said the business struggled quickly after the deal closed, including when advertisers reportedly pulled their contracts and shifted their attention to Facebook.
For many users in the 2000s, Myspace was a defining part of the early social media era, known for features like the Top 8 friends list and profile songs. Adele has also said the platform helped launch her music career after a demo was posted there by a friend.
