A 41-year-old woman is facing shoplifting charges after police say she tried to steal more than $52 in merchandise from Walmart in Maricopa, according to InMaricopa.
Maricopa police were called to the store on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway around 3:45 p.m. on Sept. 6 for a report of attempted shoplifting.
Store security told police that Ana Carrasco bought a pint of ice cream, then put sunglasses and shorts into a bag at self-checkout without scanning them. A probable cause statement says those items were worth $31.64.
After officers arrested Carrasco, a security alarm went off as they escorted her out of the store. Carrasco later told police she also had a Zippo lighter in her bra, valued at $21.84, according to the report.
Police said a background check showed Carrasco had two previous theft charges in August and a warrant for assault with domestic violence charges in Casa Grande. She was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting and booked into Pinal County Jail.
