A 19-year-old man is accused of trying to break into a Maricopa vape shop with a rock early Sept. 11, according to a probable cause statement cited by InMaricopa.
Police say Ian Estes was found wandering in a nearby Taco Bell parking lot around 3 a.m. after the attempted break-in at Cloud Slingers Smoke and Vape. Officers reported finding gloves and a rock in his pocket, along with a backpack containing a hammer, three screwdrivers, a box knife and a fire extinguisher.
According to the probable cause statement, Estes told police he had tried to break into the vape shop with a brick and also targeted a nearby office earlier in the morning because he was looking for “a warm place to sleep.” He also reportedly said he kept the tools because “he watches numerous 911 documentary shows.”
Officers said they found another large rock near the front of the business and damage to the front door. Estes was booked into Pinal County Jail on suspicion of burglary in the third degree, possession of burglary tools and criminal damage, according to InMaricopa.
