Maricopa expo will help seniors and families prepare for falls

Maricopa seniors and their families will have a chance to learn fall-prevention strategies at a free expo next weekend, according to InMaricopa. The event is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Maricopa Library and Cultural Center, 18160 N. Maya Angelou Drive.

The Fall Prevention Awareness Info/Expo is being hosted by Maricopa Senior Living and the Arizona Falls Prevention Coalition. Organizers say the goal is to help older adults stay independent by identifying risks and making homes safer before a fall happens.

The event will include vendors, presentations and workshops from the Maricopa Fire/Medical Department. Copper Sky Fitness, a yoga instructor from the Ak-Chin Indian Community, and fitness and physical therapy professionals are also expected to take part.

Topics will include nutrition, health and wellness, and home health care. According to InMaricopa, the fire/medical department will also share information on how to tell whether someone may be at risk of falling and what to do after a fall.

Registration is required for the free event. Organizers ask attendees to email each person’s full name, email address and phone number to Ron@MaricopaSeniorLiving.org.
