Maine shark biologist earns Guinness record with 106 shark tattoos

A Maine woman’s passion for sharks has earned her a place in the Guinness World Records. Emily Morrison, a shark biologist and owner of a shark fossil diving tour company, was recognized for having 106 shark tattoos, according to UPI Odd News.

The record was awarded for the most sharks tattooed on the body by a female after the tattoos were officially counted in May. Morrison is known as “Shark Lady Emily.”

She said her interest in sharks started with fear after seeing the movie Jaws when she was 8 years old. According to Morrison, her father encouraged her to learn about real sharks at the library, which helped turn that fear into a lasting fascination.

Morrison said she has fed tiger sharks and great hammerheads in the Bahamas, cage-dived with great whites in Australia, and swum with whale sharks off the coast of Mexico. She is also scheduled to appear in the Discovery Channel special My Strange Shark Addiction as part of the network’s annual Shark Week programming, which begins Sunday.
