Emily Willis' family has reached a legal settlement in the civil case tied to her collapse at a California rehab facility, according to E! News. Court documents filed July 15 show that a $3 million settlement has been approved.
After legal fees and liens, Willis is expected to receive about $1.25 million. Her mother, Yesenia Cooper, will continue serving as her conservator because Willis, whose real name is Litzy Banuelos, has been ruled incapacitated.
Willis entered Summit Malibu near Los Angeles on Jan. 27, 2024, seeking treatment for ketamine addiction. In the complaint filed by her mother, she was described as severely underweight and dealing with several health issues when she arrived.
The lawsuit said facility staff did not adequately respond as her condition worsened in the days that followed. According to the filing, she was later found unconscious in her room on Feb. 4, 2024, and paramedics performed CPR before she was taken to a hospital.
Willis' family attorney said she suffered an anoxic brain injury and will not recover. In court filings, Malibu Summit denied wrongdoing and said Willis refused efforts to send her for outside urgent or emergency care as her condition declined.
