Love Island USA season eight ended on July 12 with Trinity Tatum and Bryce Dettloff named the winners, according to E! News. The couple earned the most of America’s votes and took home the $100,000 prize.
After the finale, Dettloff told Tatum he was grateful for their relationship and said he looked forward to what comes next outside the villa. Tatum said she felt overwhelmed and appreciative, adding that Dettloff had been patient with her throughout the season.
Aniya Harvey and Carl Schmidt finished as runners-up. Melanie Moreno and Sincere Rhea placed third, while Kayda Bosse and Zach Georgiou came in fourth.
The season also saw several controversies and major cast changes. E! News reported that Vasana Montgomery was removed before the June 2 premiere after footage surfaced of her using a racial slur, and Alannah Keyser was later dumped from the villa after resurfaced footage and screenshots showed her using the N-word.
Onscreen, the season featured multiple love triangles, tense confrontations and dramatic recouplings. The article also noted that the show is edited from many hours of footage each day by a large production team in Fiji, where Love Island USA has been set since season five.
