Pulp closed out Mad Cool 2026 in Madrid on Saturday night with a set that also became a moment of celebration for England supporters, according to NME.
The band’s final song, ‘Common People’, began just as England’s 2-1 win over Norway was confirmed, prompting many fans in the crowd to cheer and lift friends onto their shoulders. The festival audience included plenty of British fans, many of whom had been following the match on their phones during the show.
Frontman Jarvis Cocker also asked guitarist Mark Webber for an update on the score before joking to the crowd, “But we don’t care about football because we’d rather play a concert for you people.”
NME said the set ran into the early hours of Sunday morning and included songs such as ‘Babies’, ‘Do You Remember The First Time?’, ‘Spike Island’ and ‘Farmer’s Market’. The performance was described as a visual spectacle from start to finish.
Pulp’s summer tour is nearing its end, with upcoming dates including a Rough Trade 50th anniversary show at London’s Southbank Centre and festival appearances in Ireland, Manchester and at End Of The Road Festival.
