Army veteran Ben Breckheimer will be the featured speaker at a Veterans Appreciation Event in Maricopa on Wednesday, Nov. 11, according to InMaricopa.
The event will take place at Duke’s Roadhouse as part of a Business Owners Giving Back gathering and is open to veterans, their families and community members. Organizers say the evening will recognize military service and highlight themes of resilience and recovery.
Breckheimer served first as an Army medic and later as a cavalry scout. In 2009, an improvised explosive device hit his vehicle in Afghanistan, leaving him seriously injured and requiring multiple surgeries to save his leg.
After medically retiring from the Army, he took on mountaineering and set out to complete the Seven Summits, the highest peaks on each continent. He finished the challenge in June 2021 by climbing Denali in Alaska, becoming the first Purple Heart recipient to do so.
According to the event flyer, general admission is $10 and dinner admission is $30. Tickets are available through Eventbrite.
