In a letter published Oct. 1, 2026, Peg Chapados urged Maricopa residents to vote in the upcoming election and listed five reasons she says turnout matters.
According to InMaricopa, Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. The last day to register to vote is Oct. 5, and early ballots are scheduled to go out Oct. 7.
Chapados argued that every ballot can matter, especially in close local elections, and said failing to vote leaves decisions to others. She also said voting is important to preserve local control and to push back against mandates that she described as requiring action without funding.
Her letter also encouraged voters to learn about candidates and issues before casting a ballot. Chapados said informed voters can help shape change and that turnout has a direct effect on the future.
The letter closed by urging readers to get the facts, learn about the candidates and issues, and vote.
