The CLA, or Connect, Love, Advocate, Autism Club is hosting its first annual Gentle Halloween trunk or treat from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at Molly’s House of Little Feet in Maricopa, according to InMaricopa.
The event was inspired by club co-founder Skylar Osper and her 3-year-old son, Landon, who has autism. Osper said the family realized many local activities were difficult for him because of overstimulation, which made outings more stressful for their household.
Co-founder Holli Stapleton said the club wanted to create a space for families who may have similar experiences. The event is being planned as a “low stim” Halloween option, with reduced noise, lighting and visual clutter, along with a slower pace.
Organizers said horns, flashing lights and loud music will be avoided. The event will include goodie bags, sensory tables and vendors such as Kindness Evolves, McDonald’s and Cold Stone Creamery. Attendance will be limited by the hour so families can move at their own pace in a judgment-free environment.
