Legendary electronic producer William Orbit has died at the age of 69, according to NME. A statement posted to social media said he passed away at home on July 23, and no cause of death was given.
The statement said his family and loved ones were “deeply saddened” by his death and that he would be missed by many whose lives he touched through his music, friendship and kindness.
Orbit, born William Wainwright in London in 1956, worked with a wide range of artists over his career, including Madonna, Blur, Ricky Martin, U2 and Britney Spears. He is especially known for his work on Madonna’s 1998 album Ray of Light, which won three Grammys, and for helping reshape Blur’s sound on their 1999 album 13.
Tributes also came from artists who worked with him, including Melanie C, Ferry Corsten and Erol Alkan. According to NME, his final credited work was with All Saints on their 2018 album Testament.
