Jason Sudeikis hosts Kansas City watch party as Argentina plays in World Cup

Jason Sudeikis brought World Cup energy to Kansas City on Saturday night, hosting a watch party at CPKC Stadium while Lionel Messi and Argentina played Switzerland at Arrowhead Stadium, according to ABC News.

The event tied in closely with “Ted Lasso,” the Apple TV comedy-drama in which Sudeikis stars as the title character. The series is set to return Aug. 5 for its fourth season after a hiatus that began in May 2023.

Sudeikis, who grew up in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park, said his interest in soccer has grown along with the show’s immersion in the sport. Many scenes for the new season were filmed around Kansas City, including at CPKC Stadium, home of the Kansas City Current.

Juno Temple, who plays Keeley Jones, said it felt like the right time to highlight women’s soccer, while Brendan Hunt said he has heard from people who became soccer fans after watching “Ted Lasso.” Hunt also noted that the sport’s popularity in the U.S. looks stronger than it did during the 1994 World Cup.
