A letter to the editor published by InMaricopa says Global Water Resources is still facing criticism over transparency as its water and wastewater rate case moves forward in Maricopa.
According to the letter, the writer met with Global Water executives in May 2025 to ask questions about proposed residential and commercial rate increases, but said the meeting did not provide enough information to make a clear assessment. The letter also says an Arizona Corporation Commission public meeting on the request was held Dec. 11, 2025, and was continued after multiple objections were filed.
The letter points to later reports that Global Water reached a settlement with the Residential Utility Consumer Office, with one article saying the water increase was reduced to 7.5% and another saying the overall increase would be 1.5%. It also quotes a Global Water customer letter saying the company heard concerns about transparency, predictability and avoiding large rate hikes.
Still, the writer argues the company has not been clear enough with customers about the changes. The letter says a hearing on the rate request and settlement agreement is scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 3 before the Arizona Corporation Commission’s Utilities Division, and if approved, the new rate would take effect in November.
