An alligator that spent a month on the loose in Indiana has been found and safely returned to its owner, according to UPI Odd News.
The 20-year-old reptile, named Irwin, escaped June 5 from a cooler while owner Mark Kolhorst was unloading his van in DeKalb County after a wildlife show. Kolhorst runs Mark's Ark, an Auburn business that presents educational animal programs at schools and other venues.
Kolhorst said personnel with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources captured Irwin and brought him back home on Sunday. He also said the alligator had been spotted in a neighbor’s pond two days earlier, but his own attempt to catch it with a casting net did not work.
Kolhorst said he had been worried about the animal’s safety after a neighbor threatened to shoot it. He added that Irwin is doing well and settling back in at home. Neighbors had raised concerns about safety during the time the gator was missing.
