A traffic stop in Maricopa that began with an illegal U-turn ended with one man under arrest on suspicion of impaired driving, an open-container violation and a sex-offender registry offense, according to InMaricopa.
Police pulled the vehicle over around 3 p.m. on Oct. 3 after seeing it make the illegal turn. Officers reported finding a man and two women in the front seat.
According to a probable cause statement cited by the outlet, the driver, 64-year-old Jefferson McGee of Senita, had watery, bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol. McGee told officers he had taken one shot before getting behind the wheel.
Officers also found an E&J Brandy shooter, several unopened shooters and a marijuana pipe with residue inside the vehicle. The statement said McGee showed signs of impairment during field sobriety tests.
During the investigation, police also learned the car’s canceled registration was tied to McGee’s failure to update his information as a registered sex offender within the required 72-hour period, according to InMaricopa.
