Two men were arrested after police say they were caught in connection with an alleged theft at Walmart in Maricopa, according to InMaricopa.
Maricopa police responded to the store on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway around 5:19 p.m. on Oct. 1 after a report of a shoplifting in progress. Store security said the men were stopped at the garden-center exit.
According to a probable cause statement, surveillance video showed the men entering through the garden section, putting items into a Walmart bag and walking past the registers without paying. Police said officers later found two men matching the descriptions near a nearby apartment complex, including one on a bicycle wearing a white tank top.
Police identified the men as 24-year-olds Amir Badgett and Davontae Lewis. Store security recovered the items, which police said were worth $109 for Lewis and $66.04 for Badgett.
Both men first denied stealing anything, according to the probable cause statements. Police said that after they were told about the video, both admitted they intended to take the items and were stopped by Walmart loss prevention. Both were booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center and were set for an in-custody hearing at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
