Kanye West, who now goes by Ye, is being sued by a freelance producer who says he was brought in on an emergency basis to help finish Vultures 2 and later worked on Bully without being paid, according to Rolling Stone.
The complaint, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, says Ye and Yeezy made an urgent request for help and hired the producer on Aug. 1, 2024, just two days before Vultures 2 was released. The producer alleges he did extensive vocal production work under tight deadlines, including creating AI voice models and hundreds of vocal generations.
The lawsuit says five tracks on Vultures 2 included his work, and that he later began contributing to Bully in October 2024. It also claims he created additional AI vocal production and helped write on two commercially released tracks.
According to the filing, West and Yeezy later acknowledged the producer’s contributions and said they were updating streaming platforms to reflect them, but the producer says he still was not compensated. He is seeking at least $110,000 in damages, along with double damages under the Los Angeles Freelance Worker Protections Ordinance.
The lawsuit includes claims for breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and violations of worker protection laws and California’s Unfair Competition Law. Rolling Stone noted that a spokesman for Ye did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
