Facial tattoos helped Walmart employee identify alleged shoplifter, police say

Police say a Walmart security guard used facial tattoos to identify a man accused of shoplifting in Maricopa earlier this month.

According to a probable cause statement cited by InMaricopa, 46-year-old Jason Bayt was first accused of stealing about $78 in merchandise on Aug. 31 by switching price tags to pay less. A security guard reportedly recognized Bayt on Sept. 3 after a woman caused a disturbance inside the store.

During that second visit, Bayt allegedly took a Dr. Pepper valued at $2.58. Police later located Bayt and the woman about 15 minutes later at Slim Chickens, where Bayt was in the bathroom.

When officers searched Bayt, they found a small bag of methamphetamine in his cargo pants pocket, according to the statement. Bayt was booked into Pinal County Jail on suspicion of shoplifting, dangerous drug possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
