Eva Mendes is showing support for Ryan Gosling’s next big role. After Marvel announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Gosling will play Ghost Rider in an upcoming standalone film, Mendes reacted on Instagram with a nod to the movie where the two first met, according to E! News.
Mendes reshared a fan-made clip from The Place Beyond the Pines, the 2012 crime drama that brought the couple together. The edit added the Ghost Rider logo over footage of Gosling’s opening scene as motorcycle stunt driver Luke Glanton.
In her post, Mendes wrote, “Love, Roxy,” appearing to reference Roxanne Simpson, the character she played in the 2007 film Ghost Rider alongside Nicolas Cage. Gosling’s casting makes him the first actor to play the Marvel Comics character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Gosling appeared at Marvel’s Hall H panel alongside Kevin Feige to confirm the news, saying Ghost Rider is a role he has wanted to play for a long time. Plot details for the film have not been released.
Mendes later shared another montage from The Place Beyond the Pines on her Instagram Stories and called it a “parallel universe” version of Ghost Rider, thanking the creator for the connection.
