EMF announce death of founding keyboardist Derry Brownson, aged 55

EMF have announced the death of founding member and keyboardist Derry Brownson, who was 55. The band shared the news in a social media post on Friday, August 14, saying they had heard about his death the night before.

In their message, the group referred to Brownson as their “Brother In Arms” and said they were devastated by the loss. They added that they were grateful he had been able to join them on stage a couple of times just a few months ago.

According to BBC Gloucestershire, Brownson had been diagnosed with a brain tumour and had been receiving treatment. Born in 1971, Derran “Derry” Brownson was one of the original members of the Gloucestershire alt-rock band and stayed on as keyboardist and sample player as EMF rose to prominence in the early 1990s.

Brownson’s death has prompted tributes from fellow musicians and fans. Ash frontman Tim Wheeler, guitarist and writer Will Crewdson, Dictator, Therapy and record producer Tommie Sunshine were among those sharing condolences, while singer-songwriter Kirk Brandon said he was deeply saddened by the news.
