Ellen Greene is stepping back into one of her most famous roles as Little Shop of Horrors marks its 40th anniversary, according to ABC News.
Greene, now 75, made Audrey memorable first in the 1982 off-Broadway production and later in Frank Oz’s 1986 film alongside Rick Moranis. She told The Associated Press that the character’s voice and personality came to her naturally during the audition and stayed with her.
Beginning this weekend, Greene will travel to screening events around the country over the next several months, with stops including Seattle on Aug. 18 and Atlanta on Nov. 13. She is also expected to perform “Somewhere That’s Green,” one of the musical’s signature songs.
Greene also reflected on the production’s history, the changes made from stage to screen, and her friendship with lyricist Howard Ashman, who died in 1991 from complications related to AIDS. She said the continued love for Little Shop of Horrors helps keep both the show and Ashman’s memory alive.
