Fontaines D.C. have previewed their upcoming single “Marianne” and confirmed that their fifth studio album is in the works, according to NME.
The Dublin band posted a 30-second clip of the track on YouTube on August 14. The snippet follows the first live performance of the song in Cádiz last weekend, where they also introduced another unreleased track called “Six Shot Morning.”
“Marianne” carries a heavier, industrial feel, with frontman Grian Chatten singing over frenetic drums and strings. In a separate Instagram post, the band shared a new photo of the five-piece with the simple caption “5,” which appears to point to the follow-up to 2024’s Romance.
The group has been discussing new music for some time. Bassist Conor Deegan III told NME last year that the band could not stop writing, while guitarist Carlos O’Connell said in January that they had been working on songs and might test new material live.
Fontaines D.C. are set to play shows in France, Switzerland and Austria in the coming days before headlining Reading & Leeds later this month. They will then headline Electric Picnic in Ireland on August 30.
