Summer Sonic teases a possible Radiohead return to Tokyo in 2027

Tokyo’s Summer Sonic Festival appears to have teased a possible Radiohead appearance in 2027. During the opening of the Tokyo edition, the festival’s video screens showed a short clip of Radiohead live footage before ending with the words “TOKYO 2027,” according to Stereogum.

The band has a history with Summer Sonic, having headlined the event in 2003 and again in 2016. Thom Yorke also played a Summer Sonic-sponsored club show in 2015 with his Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes project.

The teaser comes after Radiohead returned to the stage in late 2025 for the first time in seven years. They played 20 shows across four-night residencies in several major European cities.

Ed O’Brien has said the band has discussed touring in a similar way going forward, possibly doing around 20 shows a year and visiting a different continent each time, with plans that could begin in 2027. He later said that 20 shows would be more of a maximum than a guarantee.
