Ekko Astral have announced that they are going on an indefinite hiatus, according to Stereogum. The Washington, D.C. punk band said they are stepping away for the foreseeable future to focus on other musical projects.
The group also laid out plans for two final shows: a free outdoor performance in New York City on Aug. 22 and a hometown sendoff at D.C.’s DC9 on Aug. 27. Ekko Astral said the shows will span their catalog and be the last time they play tracks from it for a very long time.
In their statement, the band said they no longer plan to release The Beltway Is Burning any time soon. They added that the record may come out someday, but not in the near future.
Ekko Astral also said they will raffle the painting from the pink balloons album cover at the DC9 show, with all proceeds going to trans health services at Whitman-Walker. The band thanked fans for supporting them as they rose from bedroom jams and basement shows to a larger audience.
