A new compilation is set to collect recordings David Bowie made in 1965 with producer Shel Talmy, according to Rolling Stone. The release, titled The Shel Talmy Recordings, is due out Sept. 18.
The project gathers material Bowie recorded before he became famous, when he was still performing under his birth name, Davie Jones. Those sessions were made with groups that were known at different times as the Lower Third and the Mannish Boys.
Rolling Stone reports that the recordings occasionally featured Jimmy Page on guitar and Nicky Hopkins on piano. The collection includes 10 songs that have never been officially released, beginning with “I Want Your Love,” which is out now.
The set also includes “You’ve Got a Habit of Leaving” and “Baby Loves That Way,” both of which Bowie later revisited for his posthumously released album Toy. The compilation track list also includes demos, alternate takes, and remastered versions of the 1965 material.
