Maricopa residents visited the city’s new indoor sports complex for the first time Saturday during an opening celebration at the Fieldhouse at Copper Sky, according to InMaricopa.
The facility at 17985 Greythorn Dr. opened with basketball featuring the Phoenix Suns Gorilla, a professional wrestling show from Phoenix Championship Wrestling, and chances for guests to try volleyball and pickleball. Families also found giveaways, an inflatable play area and food trucks at the event.
For Santa Rosa resident Melanie Diaz, the main attraction was indoor pickleball. She said the covered courts will make it more comfortable to play during the hot summer months.
The Fieldhouse includes 22 courts in total: four full-size basketball courts, six volleyball courts and 12 pickleball courts. Parks and Recreation Director Rocky Brown said the space will also help the city expand programming at its existing multi-generational center by opening up room for more youth and teen activities.
According to InMaricopa, the project took about two years to complete. The city first proposed converting the former police substation and impound yard into a recreation facility in August 2024, and renovations began in summer 2025.
