Cork band Cliffords have told NME they are working on a debut album they describe as more “refined” and inward-looking. The group said they have been writing and recording after a packed summer of live shows.
Frontwoman Iona Lynch and keyboardist Locon O’Toole spoke to NME backstage at Mad Cool 2026, where Cliffords performed as part of the festival’s 10th anniversary. Their recent run has also included supporting Mumford & Sons at BST Hyde Park and opening for Florence + The Machine.
O’Toole said the band plans to head into the studio after their current run of shows to record new music, adding that a full album could be next. He said the group spent months writing, including a stretch of daily sessions in Blackpool.
Lynch said the new material will continue to explore mental health and other heavy themes, alongside lighter and sadder moments. Bassist Gavin Dawkins added that the band has worked hard to refine its sound for the project.
