Jake Xerxes Fussell is preparing to release a new album, The Old Beloved Path, on September 18 through Fat Possum, according to Pitchfork.
The Southern folk singer-songwriter recorded the project in North Carolina with producer Ben Whiteley. Whiteley also plays bass on the album.
The first song from the record is Fussell’s version of the folk standard “Rock Island Line.” In a press release, Fussell said he was inspired to cover the song after hearing a Lonnie Donegan recording of it.
The Old Beloved Path follows When I’m Called, which was Fussell’s fifth album and his first for Fat Possum. The album also features Dominic Billett, Isa Burke, Wayne Horvitz, and Ken Whiteley, and Fussell has several summer dates planned ahead of a larger North American and European tour this fall.
