More than 15 years after the original trip to Camp Rock, Disney Channel’s newest installment premiered Aug. 13 with a fresh cast and plenty of callbacks for longtime fans, according to E! News.
In the new film, Connect 3 returns to Camp Rock to choose an opener for an upcoming tour, while introducing a new group of campers that includes Sage, Fletch, Desi, Rosie and Cliff. Jason, Shane and Nate Grey, played by Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas, step back to make room for the next generation, but the movie still gives plenty of attention to the franchise’s earlier storylines.
Demi Lovato’s Mitchie Torres appears briefly near the end, but references to her character appear throughout the film. Connie, played by Maria Canals-Barrera, is still at Camp Rock and now runs the camp, and Sage even finds Mitchie’s songbook hidden in her cabin floorboards.
The movie also revisits familiar jokes, lines and music from the first two films. E! News noted that Madison, played by Ava Jean, echoes Tess’s old catchphrase and gesture, while other characters reference songs like “We Rock,” “Play My Music” and “It’s On.” Camp Rock 3 begins streaming on Disney+ Aug. 14.
