Matt Lemberg, executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sun Corridor, is set to spend 25 straight hours on the pickleball court as part of a fundraiser for the organization, according to InMaricopa.
The challenge begins at 4 p.m. Sunday and wraps up at 5 p.m. Monday at the Nap Lawrence branch inside the Casa Grande Community Recreation Center at 1905 N. Peart Rd. The goal is to bring in $25,000 to support the club’s efforts to expand services for local youth.
The event is part of the club’s new Boys & Girls Club Giving Day, which lines up with the organization’s Aug. 17 birthday. It also marks the relaunch of the Blue Door Giving Society, which will offer one-time and recurring donation options tied to specific programs for children.
Lemberg said the idea was meant to draw attention in a memorable way. During the final two hours of the challenge, the club’s after-school program will be open, and he plans to play with club members before a birthday celebration at 5 p.m.
Money raised from Maricopa residents will also support the organization’s local clubs, including the newly opened Alma Farrell branch. The club serves more than 500 children across three cities each day, and more than half receive scholarships.
