DJ Shadow is set to reissue his landmark album Endtroducing to mark its 30th anniversary, according to NME. The producer and DJ, whose real name is Joshua Paul Davis, will release the record again on September 18.
Originally released in September 1996, Endtroducing was DJ Shadow’s debut album and is widely regarded as an important release in instrumental hip-hop. The album was created using samples and is known as the first sample-only album.
The record blended influences from rock, psychedelia, jazz and other styles, and was assembled between Shadow’s home studio, The Glue Factory in San Francisco, and Dan The Automator’s studio. Over the years, it has become a classic among fans and has been cited as an influence by artists including Radiohead and Deftones.
In addition to the reissue, DJ Shadow will celebrate the anniversary with a tour that begins in San Diego next month and includes stops in cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia. After the US dates, he will play a one-off show at London’s Barbican on December 18.
Earlier this year, DJ Shadow also released The Mo’Wax Singles 1993-1997, a box set of his early singles and previously unreleased alternate mixes and edits. His most recent album was Action Adventure, which arrived in 2024.
