Boy George says he has ended his working relationship with record label manager Tony Pontius after Pontius refused to release his song “We Will Dance Again,” according to NME.
George shared the track on social media last week, but it has not been added to streaming services. In a post on August 1, he said Pontius had told him, “I want nothing to do with this song,” and that he responded, “ok, we are done.”
The Culture Club frontman said he wanted to stand up for his Jewish friends and described the decision to cut ties as part of the consequences of that choice. He added that he would still release the song.
George has said the song was inspired by a visit to the Nova Music Festival Exhibition in London, where he met the parents of British-Israeli Jake Marlowe, who was killed in the October 7, 2023 attack. He has described the track as pro-peace and said he is devastated by the loss of innocent lives on both sides of the war.
The song has drawn criticism from other musicians and public figures. George is currently set to return to the stage with Culture Club on the band’s “The Singles” UK arena tour with ABC and Haircut 100 in December.
