Phoebe Bridgers’ upcoming album, Lost Weekend, is nearly here, and early reviews are beginning to surface. According to Rolling Stone, the credits include familiar names such as Christian Lee Hutson, Lucy Dacus, Julien Baker, Jack Antonoff and Alex G, along with one puzzling contributor listed as Son-John Johnson.
That mystery name appears on two songs, “Kill Me” and “I Can’t Wait.” Rolling Stone reports that the credited guest provides backing vocals on “Kill Me” and sings a more prominent duet with Bridgers on “I Can’t Wait.”
The publication says the voice on those tracks strongly resembles Geese frontman Cameron Winter, whose falsetto is described as especially recognizable. When asked about the comparison, Winter laughed and joked, “I’ll have to contact my lawyer,” according to Rolling Stone.
A representative for Bridgers did not comment on the report. Rolling Stone also noted that Winter has used playful pseudonyms before, including the alias Chet Chomsky for a secret solo show earlier this year.
Lost Weekend is set for release Aug. 14 via Dead Oceans. It will be Bridgers’ first solo album in six years, following 2020’s Punisher, and she plans to launch the phoneless Lost Tour on Sept. 15 in Indianapolis.
